In September and October the 3rd edition of FLEXCON took place. With 6 tracks, 27 speakers and almost 1.000 participants, we can speak of a very successful event. The organization was a tough challenge due to the COVID-19 developments, but we are very happy that we were able to execute our fantastic program, completely online.
The 22 sessions at FLEXCON2020 made a few things very clear. There are many projects and collaborations in Smart Energy in which international parties work together. For example, look at the Energy Pool and Aldel case: A French Energy Consulting advises a Dutch aluminum plant to make their 150 MW annual consumption more sustainable, by using their energy flexibility for FRR and FCR.
Smart homes
FLEXCON2020 also showed what can be done in homes and residential areas. Engie and Elia showed how FLEXITY can help prosumers to participate in innovative energy services. Together with companies such as Jedlix, Tiko, Voltalis and Fluvius, homes are being made smarter on all fronts, from heat pumps via smart meters to the IO.Platform.
Duck Curve
A completely different aspect of the energy transition is the Duck Curve. NieuweStroom showed the impact of developments such as solar energy and electric transport on energy prices in California, over the years 2012 – 2020. And bankability of Flex was also discussed, of course in the Flex Markets track, but also in the Energy Performance Contracting sessions from Ambience / Vito
Obviously we cannot discuss all 22 sessions here. So, if you want to watch (parts of) the webinars, you can find them here.
And finally, we would like to thank all our partners and participants who made FLEXCON2020 the huge success it was..
FLEXCON2021?
Preparations for the next FLEXCON have already started. We hope that we will soon be able to share in-person knowledge and experience about innovations in Smart Energy.
