FAN focuses on the following activities:
- Establishing a European open standard for access to flexibility at the source to enable optimum use of energy flexibility over time. FAN has developed a protocol that meets this requirement: the Energy Flexibility Interface (EFI). EFI is a communication protocol for controlling equipment by means of energy management software. Since there are no other or better options yet, FAN is focusing its efforts on standardising EFI.
- Promoting and disseminating the FAN philosophy to governments for the benefit of national and European policy-making, and to the energy, appliance and installation sectors. We do not do this on our own; we work with companies and organisations that share our vision.
- We have entered into collaborations and partnerships with manufacturers and/or their representatives, European and Dutch lobby partners, and partners who are helping FAN to develop the standard further.
